Slothien

Again, no clue if this is the right category or not.

I've read the Starcraft manuals since the original game came out, and I have tried on several occasions to find pictures of the "pre-assimilated" species from which certain zerg units were derived. I have come to the conclusion that (unless I am incredibly bad at searching for them, which is possible), pictures of these pre-assimilated species do not exist. I have therefore taken it upon myself to draw a few pre-assimilated zerg species just for fun.

That said, this is how I always pictured the slothien in my head (the slothien is what became the hydralisk after they were assimilated by the zerg). I based my picture on the manual description, which can also be found here:

Edit: I figure the scythe-like projections were probably used for some means of collecting grasses/leaves whatever, both for building and for food-eating purposes. I'm sure the various species absorbed by the zerg were not originally color-coordinated, so I went with a kind of classic "caterpillar" coloration. Although, at such a large size, I can't imagine what sort of use the spots would serve...

Edit Edit: Since it would appear that the hydralisk "evolved" even further between Starcraft and Starcraft II, I based this particular design more or less on a "de-evolution" of the Starcraft (I) hydralisk model.
